Responsible Travelling Policy

Economic: Wilds Piira products are based on the local traditions and the unspoiled nature of the area. The company owner has all of his life been active in protecting the traditions, the nature and the possibilities of the local people to live and find their income in the area.

During tours the meals served are always from the area, bought from local shops and bakeries. Also other services, like taxi and small private owned hotel bring money to develop tourism further. Wilds Piira is one the most active member in Wild Taiga organization – promoting fare travel and co operation between the small local companies.

The company has a co operation contract with the biggest land owner of the area – the Forest and Park Service (Finnish State). With this contract the company is allowed to use the trails and other services by paying a certain amount per guest. This money is used to maintain the trails and other services – not only for nature tourism companies and guests, but also for all the local people.

Environmental: The idea of all the tours is to get the guests really meet the nature – to get a deeper understanding of the fragile network: everything is connected. This is the reason we avoid everything which might become trash, recycle, don’t make any extra noise, stay mostly on the marked trail and use the ready made fire places instead of making a new for every tour.

The company owner also owns some forest and has protected a part of it because of special flora and fauna. Doing this he has been able to serve an area for a very special animal in Europe – the flying squirrel.

The company is also very active in protecting wild life and is one of the members making codes of conduct for animal watching and photographing in Finland.
Social: Old traditions are kept alive in many ways: organizing tar boat tours, wilderness treks with cultural stories and explaining the old use of the forests. The company owner is one the most active member in Wild Taiga organization – promoting fare travel and co operation between the small local companies. He is one of the most active people organizing meetings and evenings together to speak about common problems and development of the nature tourism in the area.
